What Apple announced
Apple has formally launched a rebrand of Apple Music, bringing a new design and logo to its streaming service. According to 9to5Mac, Apple also released a video explaining that the new look was "made by sound."
In a post on the official Apple Music account on X, the company wrote that it was introducing "a new identity for Apple Music, physically shaped by an original composition" from Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics. The post linked to a short film about how the visual identity came together.
How the logo was made
Apple describes the project as "a story of music, collaboration and craft with Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics." In its description of the video, the company said viewers can "discover how sound brought the Apple Music logo to life, captured entirely in camera." It summed up the effort as "just music, made visible."
9to5Mac noted that the approach mirrors the one Apple took when it rebranded Apple TV, when it also published a behind-the-scenes video showing the logo had been created in a practical, physical way rather than purely on a computer.
Other outlets covered the launch with their own framing. The Verge's headline said Apple Music has a new logo. Wallpaper* described the new visual identity as rippling into view with help from Fred again... AppleInsider's headline said the rebrand leans on Liquid Glass, the name of Apple's design language.
When users will see it
The rebrand did not come out of nowhere. 9to5Mac said there had been signs for weeks that a major Apple Music redesign was on the way, including a fresh app icon and other design updates found in iOS 27.2.
According to the site, users will see the refreshed Apple Music identity when iOS 27.2 launches next week. The source material does not detail every interface change that will come with the update, so the full scope of the redesign is not yet clear from this announcement alone.
Reaction and context
The 9to5Mac writer was not wholly impressed by the production. The piece asked how much time and money went into making waves in a fish tank, a quip about the imagery in the video. The writer also complained that the new Siri still cannot play a Recently Added playlist in Apple Music.
Apple Music costs $11.99 a month, according to 9to5Mac, and it is also available as part of the Apple One bundle. The site asked readers for their opinions on the new look in its comments.
