YouTube will mark AI-generated tracks on its main site and YouTube Music following listener demand for transparency.
YouTube announced Wednesday it will label AI-generated songs across its website and YouTube Music platform. The labels, which began rolling out on YouTube Music and will expand to the main platform, apply to tracks created primarily using generative AI, as determined by YouTube's detection tools and those of its music partners.
The move follows similar commitments from other streaming services. Apple Music said in August it would add "Made by AI" labels to songs, while Spotify said it would mark profiles of AI-generated artists as "AI Personas." Tidal has also promised to label AI music and prevent those tracks from earning royalties.
