Irish author Sally Rooney says her publisher stopped supplying her work in the U.K. after she publicly committed to supporting Palestine Action, a banned group in Britain.
Sally Rooney, author of bestsellers "Conversations with Friends" and "Normal People," announced that her books are no longer being supplied in the U.K. following her support for Palestine Action. The organization was designated a terrorist group under the U.K. Terrorism Act 2000 in July 2025.
Rooney stated in August 2025 that she would direct book sale proceeds to Palestine Action, which operates as a direct-action protest network in Ireland, where it remains legal. U.K. legislation created a legal barrier preventing her publisher, Faber, from passing earnings to her for work sold there.
