The AI-focused film received critical acclaim at major film festivals following its controversial removal from Amazon's slate, raising questions about studio conflicts of interest.
Luca Guadagnino's 'Artificial,' a genre-blending film about artificial intelligence and Sam Altman, premiered at the London Film Festival on Sunday to thunderous applause at Royal Festival Hall. The film also received a successful world premiere at the New York Film Festival the previous week, with director Guadagnino joined by cast members Andrew Garfield and Yura Borisov.
The film achieved a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Guadagnino's highest career score across 11 feature releases. Variety's chief critic Owen Gleiberman called it a 'brilliant but playful docudrama, meticulously true to history,' while Garfield's performance drew comparisons to 'a masterclass in diabolical villainy.' Critics positioned the film as a spiritual successor to David Fincher's 'The Social Network.'
