Eric Deters filed a defamation lawsuit against Guilfoyle and her lawyers after she disputed his allegations about a $100,000 wire request.
Eric Deters, a Republican donor, filed a defamation lawsuit against Kimberly Guilfoyle and her legal team in Kentucky state court on Thursday. Deters had accused Guilfoyle of requesting he wire her $100,000 to cover an American Express bill in exchange for assistance with the Trump administration prior to her Senate confirmation hearing.
Guilfoyle's legal team publicly disputed the authenticity of text messages Deters shared with news outlets. Her attorneys issued a statement to the Wall Street Journal asserting that Guilfoyle was owed money for traveling to and supporting events, which Deters denies.
